The News Media Is O-Crazy-O

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez routinely makes ridiculous statements about energy and climate change, but journalists from the mainstream news media can’t seem to come up with a substantive follow-up question. The media’s love affair with people like AOC, Al Gore, and Bernie Sanders is dangerous because a lot of people believe what they are saying is inspiring, and even doable when it isn’t.

Hey, mainstream news reporters. Will one of you please ask Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez a difficult follow-up question? Will just one of you journalists push her to prove she actually knows what she’s talking about and can provide details on her plans?

Some people are calling this woman O-Crazy-O because of the loopy things she says, but we’re starting to think it’s people in the news business who are crazy—or at least highly ideological and cynical.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez… or AOC as she is known by her fans… is pushing hard for a so-called “Green New Deal”. And what is this Green New Deal? Well… here it is directly from her website: “Alexandria believes we can be 100% free of fossil fuels by 2035.” Ok… if AOC “believes” we need to completely change the foundation of the modern world in only 16 years then I guess we can. Only… we can’t.

It’s an absurd and profoundly ignorant statement. It’s like saying, “I’m going to build a flying car in my garage by myself in a year.” Only…what she’s saying is exponentially more ridiculous.

Oil, natural gas and coal are deeply embedded in every aspect of the modern world…including renewable energy. Look… I take no pleasure in pointing out how astonishingly ignorant AOC is. But this is irresponsible because a lot of people believe what she says is inspiring and actually doable if we only spend a gazillion dollars and uproot millions of jobs to make it happen. That… is O-crazy-O!

The people I’m really unhappy with are members of the mainstream press. THEY are the problem. Politicians are free to say whatever nonsensical things they want. But it’s the job of news reporters to press them for the details, to make them defend their claims in a coherent, credible way. The media don’t do that with AOC.

And she is not the only one. Don’t you think it’s odd that Al Gore, the chief climate change crusader, is never seen debating any skeptics on catastrophic man-caused climate change? There’s a reason for that. Gore refuses to actually debate anyone on global warming. Many distinguished people have put forth the challenge, but Gore will not do it. Additionally, any member of the news media who wishes to interview Gore on climate change must submit questions in writing for prior approval.

Bernie Sanders gets the same treatment as AOC and Gore. He’s constantly lecturing us on the perils of climate change and the need to become 100 percent renewable, but that’s where it ends. The news media can’t seem to think of a challenging follow up question.

I’m being critical here because this stuff matters… a lot. People like Ocasio-Cortez, Gore, Sanders and a hoard of others are trying to convince us we need to spend countless trillions of dollars to save the planet by completely changing how we power everything. The costs are inconceivable. The United States portion of the bill would be considerably more than what it spent on every military conflict since the Revolutionary War.

With that kind of price tag, shouldn’t members of the news media get themselves educated on the issues of energy and climate change? And shouldn’t they also be asking for detailed plans from pseudo visionaries like AOC, Gore, and Sanders. Not doing so is O-Crazy-O.

For the Clear Energy Alliance, I’m Mark Mathis. Power On.
